You do not have an SEO Company with teams of staff that can spend hours delivering the four objectives, so… We have to work much smarter than the Wikipedias and Amazons of the world. Luckily, there are two things that we can do to even the playing field in our favour. 1. Develop a scalable and repeatable strategy for delivering the four objectives. 2. Develop tools that implement that strategy. Use a good selection of tools to save time. And we are about to have a scalable and repeatable strategy – the Long Tail Formula (LTF). The important thing is that the keywords in Layer 2 should be higher volume keywords than those in Layer 3, which in turn should be higher volume than those in Layer 4. Ideally, on each layer – you should have a mixture of leading Phrase Match, trailing Phrase Match, Broad Match and LSI long tail keywords. Some of the long tail keywords might show low or zero volume in Google Keyword Planner. Do not worry about that. If you go with the minimum number of keywords for each of the four layers then you’d have: 1 keyword on Layer 1 + 3 keywords on Layer 2 + 9 (i.e. 3 x 3) keywords on Layer 3 + 27 (i.e. 9 x 3) keywords on Layer 4 – giving you a total of 40 target keywords.
